Hello quilting friends! I’m popping
in today to share my July blocks for the Summer
Moon Quilt Along with Fat Quarter Shop. We’re only three months into the
quilt along, so there is plenty of time for you to join! The July assignment included Bear's Track, Buzzard Roost and Crown of Thorns blocks.
For the Bear’s Track block, I pulled
four robin’s egg blue prints from Lella Boutique’s Nest collection to make the paws, and anchored them with a little green center square. Isn’t that
about the prettiest shade of blue you have ever seen?
For the Buzzard’s Roost block, I
pulled green and blush prints from the Nest collection, along with the delicate
pink scallop from Lella Boutique’s Farmer’s Daughter collection. The center
square on this block was supposed to be done using the background fabric, but I
decided to fussy cut a flower.
For the Crown of Thorns block, I
introduced a blue print from Lella Boutique’s newest collection, Lollipop
Garden. I love how it works with her two
past collections in this block: the green from Nest and the pink gingham from
Farmer’s Daughter. This block also called for a neutral center square, but I
continued my rule breaking ways and used that sweet pink gingham.
Summer
Moon is a sampler quilt designed by Carrie Nelson and It’s Sew Emma
(the pattern company of Fat Quarter Shop). The
quilt is comprised of 24 blocks that are each made in three different sizes:
5”, 6 1/2” and 8” unfinished, for a total of 72 blocks. For the sew along, we are
asked to make three blocks each month, in all three sizes (9 blocks per month).
I am sewing just three blocks a month in the medium 6 1/2" size. You could
do whatever works with your schedule!
The Summer Moon quilt
along began in May and runs through February 2020. You can still jump in
and join the fun. For more information, please
