Next Up baby quilt featuring fabrics by Elea Lutz

Have you been searching for a sweet and simple baby quilt pattern? Look no further than my Next Up pattern! This charm pack friendly pattern finishes at 38” square and is easy enough to stitch up in a weekend.

My sample quilt features darling prints from three Elea Lutz collections. When I sew with Elea Lutz fabrics, I find myself stopping often just to gaze at the tiny details. Viewing Elea’s art feels like reading a much loved children’s book . . . tender and familiar. I imagine this quilt bringing love and comfort to a little one!

As I mentioned, my Next Up pattern is charm pack friendly. However, I had saved scraps from past Elea Lutz projects, so I was able to make my own custom charm pack! I pulled from the following collections: Bluebirds on Roses, Milk Sugar & Flower and Apple Farm. Before I start any scrappy project, I like to lay out the fabrics in a pretty arrangement and take a few photos.  It really helps me to see which prints complement each other best.

Elea Lutz creates her treasured fabric under the umbrella of the Riley Blake Designs team. To round out my fabric selection for this project, I utilized two Riley Blake basics: Linen Blush (LN300-BLUSH) and Confetti Cottons Cloud (C120-CLOUD). That linen blush is the loveliest shade of pale pink, perfect for a baby quilt.

Thank you to Barb at Quilts on Broadway for the pretty machine quilting!  We chose a feminine pattern called Rose Stipple (by Quilting Creations) and selected a pale yellow thread for added warmth and dimension.

My Next Up pattern includes instructions for two size options: large (86” square) and small (38” square, shown here.)  The large version calls for a layer cake. Both print and PDF pattern options are available on my Etsy Shop

Here are two other quilts I’ve made after being inspired by Elea Lutz and Riley Blake Designs fabrics:

  1. The quilts are so pretty. I too have the fabric line and have utilized it in several projects. I see your sweetly scalloped quilt-i had purchased the pattern from your shop a few years ago but have not utilized. My favorite part of this pattern and why i purchased was the uniqueness of the scallops. I plan to make a quilt someday. Thanks for sharing!
