Star Spangled BOM with Fort Worth Fabric Studio: Chain Blocks

Hello all! Today I want to share my Chain Blocks for the “Star Spangled” block of the month hosted by Fort Worth Fabric Studio and designer Lindsey Weight. These are the last five blocks in the program. Later this month we'll be assembling the quilt top. I can't wait to see it all put together!

Lindsey’s instructions call for a scrappy chain block using a combination of all the navy and red prints used in the quilt.  But you know me, I had to change it up just a little bit. I really like my tonal red-on-red Corner Star blocks from last month, so I repeated those prints in my chain blocks. Being the creative gal that Lindsey is, I think she'd approve of my take on the block.

My blocks feature a combination of the red polka dot from Fig Tree’s Chestnut Street collection and the red gingham from their Strawberry Fields Revisited collection. I used the same background fabric I’ve been using for all the blocks, which is from Fig Tree’s Coney Island collection.

If you'd love to make a patriotic quilt but don't have enough reds and blues on hand, or if you just want someone else to do the choosing for you, the folks at Fort Worth Fabric Studio have put together a KIT using beautiful Moda fabrics from various designers. The kit includes all material you need to create the quilt top plus binding.  They also have coordinating backing you can purchase!

This patriotic BOM runs for five months, from January through May. I've included links to Lindsey's posted patterns at the end of this blog post. You can join in at any time.  Remember, the patterns are free!

Thank you to Lindsey and Fort Worth Fabric Studio! I am so excited to have my first patriotic quilt to grace my home this summer!

  3. I also love your version. I wanted to purchase like fabric but there is no information as to how much fabric is needed. I am not crazy about typical red, white, and blue for a quilt. Can you tell me how much background fabric you used? I love Fig Tree.

    1. Hi Pam! If you go to Lindsey's first blog post, for Block One, she has a block pattern download that includes fabric requirements! :)

  4. I love your fabrics and your quilt is going to be SO pretty! (OF COURSE!! :) ) i really wanted to do this with the Gingham Girl fat quarters that I have on hand but was actually working on the FW Fabric Studio's mystery quilt a longs and one other so my hands have been full (and working full time). Looks like she is lining up another ...and i've enjoyed seeing your progress. Thanks for sharing!
