When I saw an upcoming fabric
collection called Bunnies & Cream in the Riley Blake / Penny Rose catalog
last December, I fell in fabric love.
This debut collection by Lauren Nash features sweet vintage-inspired
bunnies in darling story-book settings.
I seriously lost sleep a few nights dreaming up patterns that would
showcase Lauren's pretty fabric.
The result of those sleepless nights is my newest pattern called Shoofly Crossing. This 57" x 57" lap quilt or child's quilt is
perfect for showcasing special prints. You begin by selecting 3 fat quarters of
feature fabric, and then build around them with coordinating prints. The main blocks
are connected by small inner shoofly blocks, creating a pleasing, whimsical
design.
I love that Lauren’s collection
includes three colors of gingham, which just makes everything sweeter,
doesn’t it? Pink gingham binding ~ need I say more?
I think every quilt needs a “grounding color” and for me, this quilt called for yellow. I chose Riley Blake’s Confetti Cotton “Sunshine” ~ how appropriate!

The focal squares are cut at 4 1/2”
(4” showing) which is a very nice size for most fabrics with a feature element.
For the machine quilting, Barb (Quilts on Broadway) and I chose a loopy meander. I love how playful it is.
If you are interested in purchasing Shoofly Crossing, please visit your local quilt shop or one of my blog
sponsors. My Timeless Day, Lou Lou's Fabric Shop, Stitches 'N Giggles and Quilts on Broadway are all carrying the pattern. My
Timeless Day will be offering two kit options: one in Bunnies & Cream and one in Toy Chest 2. Please visit My Timeless Day for all the details!
You can also purchase paper or electronic patterns directly from me, but I encourage you to shop locally or through one of my sponsors when possible! Quilt shop owners: wholesale information is available here.
In March Lauren is hosting a Bunnies & Cream Blog Hop, and I will have other fun projects to share at that time. Bunnies & Cream will be shipping to quilt shops in February. Here's a lovely shot of Lauren's complete collection:
