Jelly Roll Slice with Fat Quarter Shop

This week the Fat Quarter Shop is launching another terrific free pattern in their Shortcut Quilt Series: the "Jelly Roll Slice." Their Shortcut Quilt patterns are always terrific. They are geared toward helping you sew together a quick, beautiful quilt using a precut. The patterns typically offer a variety of sizes, from runners or baby quilts all the way up to queen sized quilts! And bonus . . . now through February 28, all jelly rolls and rollie pollies will be 15% off.  No coupon code is needed!

For my project, I chose a beautiful 2.5" rolie polie precut from Riley Blake Designs called "Chatsworth" by Emily Taylor. I had been eyeing this fabric online for a while, but I had not seen it in person. Let me tell you, when it arrived . . . I was not disappointed. It is a beautiful line with rich colors and gorgeous patterns. It somehow has the perfect mix of traditional and modern that makes it a refreshing line to work with.  When I showed the fabric to my daughter, she looked at it and said, "Wow Mom, I love this! This fabric is really . . . stylish!"  I knew just what she meant and I agreed wholeheartedly.

I decided to make the smallest quilt in the pattern, which measures at 40 1/2" by 40 1/2" and uses less than one rolie polie. It was a speedy quilt to put together, but it has such an impact! The quilt is hanging above the fireplace in our living room. I think it brings a sophisticated spring feeling into the room!  The soft swirly quilting was done by Barb at Quilts on Broadway, my friend and local quilt shop owner.

The lovely people at the Fat Quarter Shop have made up their sample using "Vintage Picnic" by Bonnie & Camille for Moda.  It is so darling and they are offering a kit in those fabrics! Here are some links to get you started:

  6. Beautiful! I've just ordered my own Rolie Polie! I'd love to know what your background fabric you used. At first I thought it was gray but now I'm thinking more of a taupe? Thanks for the inspiration!

  7. Your quilt turned out lovely. I have not seen this line of prints before. They are quite pretty. I did not know what to do with a baby size quilt at the moment so I went larger. It does make a great art piece.
